  1. Now that’s a cool thought–Klingon psychologists. It opens a whole avenue for jokes about feeling your pain, but I will refrain.

I have noticed that niceness in top people is true in the martial arts, as well. I supposed that knowing you can kill everyone else in the room with no more effort than it takes to breath engenders a feeling of great serenity. Perhaps this is the intellectual equivalent–but mostly really brilliant people seem to assume everyone else is as smart as they are, so maybe not.

You HAVE to listen to Cosby’s Noah routine!

  2. The field of animal cognition is a small one, and we all know each other, so, that may play a role, but even outside my field I have found that.

This is not to say that they are all fun people or anything (though most are) but for the most part the really high end academics I have met are really cool.

  3. All joiking aside, I found that true in Politcal Science/Politics/Government as well–the really top people were all really open and friendly and happy to talk with everyone no matter how lowly, while those who wanted to be at the top but probably would never be were afraid everyone else wanted to steal their ideas and would hardly talk with anyone (TO others, but not with).
